Global Gatekeepers Club of the Global Studies and Governance (GSG) Program of SLASS, at IUB organized day-long online events to observe the UN Global Day on October 22, 2020. As part of it, four Webinars have been implemented very successfully where external resource persons and faculties from IUB also participated and present papers, chaired the session and took part in various discussion.
The very first Webinar took place in the morning on DAAD Information Session on Higher Studies in Germany. Dr. Nafisa Huq, Head, Department of Public Health at IUB talked on the topic ‘Pandemic and Education’. Mrs. Annuroopa Dixit, Mrs. Pooja Midha and Ms. Rumana Kabir were the Guest Speakers from DAAD. They highlighted the study, research and student visa requirements for Germany and explained the scholarship facilities. The event was moderated by Mr. Hossain Ahmed Taufiq from GSG Program at IUB.
Two separate Webinar was held under the topic of ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy’. Country’s renowned educationist, scholars, policymakers and professional specialists took part in presenting papers and discussing on topic. Prof. Milan Pagon, Vice Chancellor (IUB), IUB delivered welcome speech. Former Ambassador Mr. Muhammad Zamir Chaired the afternoon session and Dr. Fakrul Alam from Department of English, University of Dhaka, (First) Director, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute Chaired the evening session. Ambassador (Ret.) Tariq A Karim, Senior Fellow, Bay of Bengal Institute Project at IUB and Dr. Delwar Hossain from Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka were there as respected discussants. Mr. Shahab Enam Khan from Department of International Relations, Jahangir Nagor University; Dr. Lailufar Yasmin from Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka; Dr. Niloy Ranjan Biswas from Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka; Nahian Reza from Centre for Genocide Studies, University of Dhaka; Dr. AKM Jasim Uddin from Department of History, Jahangir Nagor University; Sayed Abu Touab Shakir from Department of History, Jahangir Nagor University; GM Arifuzzaman, Research Associate, Department of History, Jahangir Nagor University; Sheikh Shams Morsalin from Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka and Md. Saifullah Akon from Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka took part and spoke on the occasion. The discussants of the program highlighted Bangabandhu's pioneering role in building a progressive, all-inclusive, democratic and sovereign Bangladesh. Dr. Imtiaz A. Hussain, Dean (Acting), SLASS at IUB delivered closing remarks.
The third Webinar was held with the title, ‘COVID Unravelled’. Dr. Meghna Guhathakurta, Executive Director, Research Initiatives, Bangladesh; Dr. Md. Mamun Habib, from School of Business & Entrepreneurship at IUB; Dr. Mohammad Sorowar Hossain from Department of Environment Science and Management at IUB and Dr. Marsela Nyawara, Migration Health Officer (COVID 19 Response), IOM Cox’s Bazar were the Guest Speakers of the program. Jessica Tartila Suma from Department of Media & Communication at IUB moderated the session.
